Thursday, January 23, 5:00 - 6:30pm PST

In this session we will learn how to transform an abstract watercolor painting of our making into a dimensional, woven work of art! Using classic and accessible (it’s lovely meditative repetition) weaving techniques, we’ll not only explore the mixing and layering of watercolors on paper but also how, when pieced apart and re-formed, they expose hidden patterns and create texture upon texture. We’ll focus on watercolor painting + weaving and how these two seemingly disparate practices can work so beautifully together! Plus after this session you’ll know the basics of how to weave with yarn as well!

Join Zoom 15 minutes early (4:45pm) for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and other class participants! Session instructions will begin promptly at 5:05pm so that everyone has plenty of time to join!

SUGGESTED MATERIALS:

  • Watercolor paper - around 8x10
  • Scratch paper similar to the size of watercolor paper - just something for trying out weaving before using our painted piece
  • Paints - it’s best to start with a palette of 3-5 colors so that they all really pop within the weaving
  • Brush
  • Water
  • Mixing palette
  • Tape - masking, scotch, or any kind you have on hand
  • Scissors
  • A workable flat surface - just a table/desk top where you feel comfortable

Shaine is a master paper marbler and weaver and has been teaching workshops for years with us here and around the Bay Area.
