Saturday, July 12, 11:00am - 12:30pm PT
This is an online workshop held via Zoom.
Colour and movement are some of my most favorite qualities of watercolour as a medium, and for this session we’ll be looking to Morris Louis for inspiration.
Morris was an American painter and was one of the earliest creators of the Color field style of painting. Also known as the Washington Color School this modernism movement simplified the idea of what constitutes a finished painting. Paint was thinned down and applied in large fluid planes of expressive, intense colour, with repetitive use of shapes.
Using wet on wet techniques we’ll create a series of organic shapes, building up the intensity of color and then experiment with layering on translucent color washes - Morris referred to these as veils. We’ll intuitively pick pigments to build a harmonious color story and create some of our own color field blooms and patterns.
Join Zoom 15 minutes early for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and class participants! Class will begin promptly at 5 minutes past the hour, so everyone has plenty of time to create!
