Watercolor Flora - Cedric Morris with Claire Wilson
Free domestic shipping on product orders over $150!
Friday, November 22, 5:00 - 6:30pm PT
This workshop will take inspiration from the artist and horticulturist Sir Cedric Lockwood Morris. He was most well known for his portraits, landscapes and flower paintings, and worked mainly in East Anglia where I grew up. In addition to running the East Anglian school of painting he was passionate about plants, in particular Irises.
A trademark of Cedrics flower paintings was a rich dark or colourful background that emphasized the light and colour of the flowers. Instead of the usual white paper, we’ll be experimenting with depicting floral reference on black watercolor paper.
This class will explore the movement of pigment through water, using wet on wet and pulling and charging techniques to convey the luminous qualities of flowers. We'll use the black paper medium to play around with depth and shadows, and some unexpected hues!
Join zoom 15 minutes early (4:45pm PT) for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and other class participants! Session instructions will begin promptly at 5:05pm PT so that everyone has plenty of time to join!
