Wednesday, February 18, 5:00pm - 6:30pm PT
This is an online workshop held via Zoom.

Rocks are a wonderful subject to explore for all levels of watercolorists! Join Sophie for an evening of deep observation and exploration - we will study the subtle colors and textures of these willing subjects and you'll find a new appreciation for your rock collection. Sophie will focus on mark making techniques and color matching, making this a wonderful class for both experienced painters and new folks alike!

Join Zoom 15 minutes early for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and class participants! Class will begin promptly at 5 minutes past the hour, so everyone has plenty of time to create!

SUGGESTED MATERIALS:

  • rocks - no crystals, ablalone shells, or buffed rocks. Natural stones are the best for this class. Smaller rocks are easier to paint. Sophie suggests 2"-3" in size.
  • brushes - small round (4,6, or 8 works well)
  • watercolor paper paints - it's helpful to have an assortment of neutrals, including white paint
  • water
  • paper towel
  • pencil with eraser

ABOUT INSTRUCTOR
I have followed a meandering path to find my way to a career in illustration and I'm overjoyed to share my love of nature through painting. Watercolor is my muse and I love its unpredictable, unforgiving qualities; it is my daily joy to harness the wildness of the medium and reveal its delicacy and strength.
