New! Meditation on Agnes Martin’s Grid with Anjelika Deogirikar Grossman

Thursday, November 6, 2:00pm - 3:30pm PT
This is an online workshop held via Zoom.
I have always been drawn to visual art that explores the grid. When I lived in the Bay Area, I enjoyed practicing slow looking in SFMOMA’s Agnes Martin room — every time I spent time with Agnes Martin’s work, I noticed something different. More recently I got to visit the Agnes Martin Gallery space at the Harwood Museum in Taos, and I was once again reminded that when I’m feeling stuck, I need to go back to the grid. Inspired by Agnes’ meditative designs, we will create our own geometric patterns, explore watercolor glazing, and practice painting with a flat brush.
Join Zoom 15 minutes early for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and class participants! Class will begin promptly at 5 minutes past the hour, so everyone has plenty of time to create!
SUGGESTED MATERIALS:
- 2-3 of your favorite watercolor paints (one of Anjelika’s favorite is Indigo)
- 3-4 sheets of watercolor paper (cold press preferred) (we will work in multiples to allow time to dry between layers; no particular preferences on size — you can mix and match sizes)
- optional: CfM 1/2" Graph Paper
- 1 piece of scrap paper for swatching
- 1 piece of scrap copy paper for warm-ups and sketching
- 1-2 Brushes (Anjelika’s preference for this practice is flat brushes size 4 or 10)
- Ruler or straight edge
- Pencil
- optional: ink pen
- Water
- Paper towel
ABOUT INSTRUCTOR
