Saturday, July 26, 11:00am - 12:30pm PT
This is an online workshop held via Zoom.
In this workshop participants will learn to emulate the vibrant gradients found in the work of pioneering feminist artist Judy Chicago. Using pulling techniques to create soft fades, we’ll explore how to create smooth transitions of color that reflect Chicago’s distinctive style. The class will focus on varying levels of saturation and dilution, and composition to achieve a soft blended effect using watercolor.
Judy Chicago is an American artist known for her contributions to the 1970's feminist art movement, and her innovative use of color and form. Her paintings often feature symmetrical, abstract designs with radiating gradients that create a sense of depth and movement. By studying her techniques, participants will gain insight into how subtle color shifts can be used to build powerful visual impact in their own work.
Mark making describes the different lines, dots, marks, patterns, and textures we create in an artwork. It can be loose and gestural, or controlled and neat. We each have our own unique way of mark making, and discovering the limitless possibility of making marks is part of what makes art so immensely joyful!
Join Zoom 15 minutes early for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and class participants! Class will begin promptly at 5 minutes past the hour, so everyone has plenty of time to create!
