Saturday, February 21, 11:00am - 12:30pm PT
This is an online workshop held via Zoom.
In this session we’ll focus on painting vintage Lambeth-style cakes, known for their intricate piping, sculptural details, and timeless appeal. Using watercolour, we’ll explore how to translate decorative frosting into layered washes, fine line work, and subtle texture, with an emphasis on pastel palettes and dimensional form. The class will guide you through techniques for building depth and balance while maintaining a romantic, expressive hand. The Lambeth icing technique originated in England in the early 20th century, when confectioner Joseph Lambeth popularized lavish, over-piped royal icing designs, turning celebration cakes into miniature architectural fantasies. Painting invites you to slow down, indulge your curiosity, and paint something sweet—no baking required, just a love of ornament, nostalgia, and some confectionary colour.
Join Zoom 15 minutes early for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and class participants! Class will begin promptly at 5 minutes past the hour, so everyone has plenty of time to create!
