Fluid Felines with Melanie Lan

Saturday, September 5, 11:00am - 12:30pm PT.
This is an online workshop held via Zoom.
You don't need to be a cat lover to paint these whimsical creatures. This workshop is open to anyone looking to explore watercolor in a spontaneous and playful way. In this class we'll paint feline portraits with an emphasis on the fluidity of watercolor, rather than anatomical precision.
We'll begin by studying the work of a few artists who found inspiration in cats, ranging from Ancient Egyptian artists to Henri Matisse, and we'll explore the many ways these curious companions have been interpreted through art. From there, we'll create our own feline paintings using washes, layering, and playful approaches to positive and negative space.
Reference photos will be provided, and you’re also welcome to bring your own imagery (or pets!) for inspiration. All levels welcome.
Join Zoom 15 minutes early for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and class participants! Class will begin promptly at 5 minutes past the hour, so everyone has plenty of time to create!
