Exploring Materials for Beginners with Yina Kim
Couldn't load pickup availability
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 6:30 – 8:30pm PT
This is an in-person workshop at CfM Art Room:
4035 Judah St, San Francisco, next door to our shop!
This hands-on class is designed for beginners and hobbyists who are curious about drawing and painting but have little or no experience working with different art materials. Together, we will experiment with a variety of materials and techniques to discover what feels most comfortable and enjoyable to work with.
We will explore water-based media such as watercolor and ink, and experiment with different materials to discover what complements them best. We will also learn the basics of drawing with graphite, including how to hold a pencil and create different types of shading, and experiment with mixed media and different ways of building an image.
Rather than focusing on one finished piece, this class focuses on experimenting and learning through repetition. We will draw the same or similar subjects using different materials and techniques, allowing you to compare the results and discover what works best for you.
No previous art experience is necessary. This class suits those who want a relaxed introduction to art materials, build basic drawing skills, and gain the confidence to keep experimenting and creating on their own.

ABOUT INSTRUCTOR
Yina Kim is an illustrator and maker who can pretty much make anything. We first met her in 2014, when we discovered her and her partner Soojin's leather goods and shoe repair shop, Odsy Workshop, on Instagram, and immediately got a business crush on them. Flash forward a few years, when a CfM paint maker and friend told Yina they were making paint with us, and Yina said, "I want to do that, too!" So Yina started coming in to make paint during the hours she wasn't running her business and working on the myriad projects she always has going on, and thank goodness she did!
