Thursday, July 30, 5:00pm - 6:30pm PT
This is an online workshop held via Zoom.

Dorothy Hood was born in 1918 and spent her life in both Mexico and Texas. Her large abstract paintings are full of hard and soft edges, moments where the paint pools and gathers and places where the paint makes crisp lines and angles. Her colors are bold and inspired by the full range of colors found in both Mexico and Texas. With watercolors, we will play with some of Dorothy’s shapes by creating hard edges with tape, letting the watercolors be soft and blend, and create dynamic shapes with layered colors. This is a really fun class to experiment with abstract shapes and learn new ways of approaching applying paint to paper.

Join Zoom 15 minutes early for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and class participants! Class will begin promptly at 5 minutes past the hour, so everyone has plenty of time to create!

SUGGESTED MATERIALS:

  • 4 to 6 pieces of watercolor paper precut into smaller pieces (4x6 or 6x6 for instance)
  • Your favorite watercolor and / or gouache paints
  • Small brushes at least one small flat brush C
  • ontainer for water
  • Artist “masking” tape or delicate surface tape that can be stuck to paper and removed without ripping the paper (test it out first!)
