Blue Ridge Yellow Ochre
Free domestic shipping on product orders over $150!
The richest ochre we've made yet! This deep gold is lightfast and highly opaque, with an incredibly smooth and consistent texture. The color sits extremely matte, but can be watered down to subtle yellows or tinted to an opaque pastel.
Like Blue Ridge Red Hematite and Blue Ridge Violet Hematite, Blue Ridge Yellow Ochre derives from a natural iron-oxide pigment specific to Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountain range. In this region, clay deposits saturated in limonite (which produces a yellow hue) and hematite (which produces a reddish hue) have been mined since the mid-1800’s, and yield colors unrivaled in their intensity and richness.
We also have some seconds available in this color. We deem a half-pan second quality when it is too low, too full, or a bit cracked—but the paint is still lovely! Available until we run out!
All of our watercolors are handmade in our shop using the highest quality earth and synthetic pigments, plus natural watercolor binding medium made from gum arabic (sap from acacia trees), honey, glycerine, distilled water, and a dash of clove oil for freshness!
Half Pans measure ~3/4" x 1/2" x 3/8" and contain ~2ml of paint.
Color Index number as provided by vendor: PY43 (77492). All of our watercolors conform to ASTM D-4236.
