This is an online workshop held via Zoom.

Start the year with some sparkle! A variation on Meditation on Anni Albers’ Grid Patterns and Beyond the Grid Pattern Meditations, I started exploring pattern-making with metallics. Drawing inspiration from American textile artist and printmaker Anni Albers and the improvisational quilts by the women of Gee’s Bend, I create a sense of mediation and flow, noticing the negative and positive space, as I move across the page to create a pattern of repeated right triangles. Metallics have different qualities than other pigments and it’s exciting to explore on different tones of paper.

Join Zoom 15 minutes early for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and class participants! Class will begin promptly at 5 minutes past the hour, so everyone has plenty of time to create!

SUGGESTED MATERIALS:

  • Watercolor metallic paint — at least 1 color that you’re curious to explore in your palette
  • Watercolor paper: * 2-3 sheets of watercolor paper — participants are encouraged to try different toned paper (for example, Legion Stonehenge 100% cotton, cold press, black watercolor paper)
  • 2-3 small scrap pieces of watercolor paper
  • 1 piece of scrap white copy paper
  • Brushes (Anjelika prefers round brushes)
  • Pencil or pen
  • Water
  • Paper towel
  • *optional* colored pencil that closely matches your paper or a pencil blender, which works well on some dark toned papers
  • *optional* Straight edge or a ruler
