Transitions with Dave Muller
Friday, September 27, 5:00pm - 6:30pm PT
A common challenge in watercolor painting is that it behaves very differently from other paint mediums. This class will break down those differences, highlighting what makes watercolor unique and exploring how to embrace the medium for its strengths. We’ll identify aspects of other painting mediums that can be incorporated into our work while recognizing old habits that might hinder our process. We will discuss how to approach transitions between colors, values, textures and brushwork, and how to use the fluidity of watercolor to our advantage. Our goal is to discover techniques that allow us to paint more freely and to move beyond anything that limits our creativity.
Join zoom 15 minutes (4:45pm) early for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and other class participants! Session instructions will begin promptly at 5:05pm PT so that everyone has plenty of time to join!
SUGGESTED MATERIALS:
- Your favorite watercolors; as few or many as you are comfortable using at once.
- One or more large brushes (flat 1" is my preferred)
- Any other brushes you like to work with (round 12, 8, 4, 1 etc)
- 4+ sheets of watercolor paper, around 6"x5" (no wider than 10"; Arches cold press 100% cotton 140lb preferred)
- Tape for edges (3m scotch magic tape works great)
ABOUT DAVE
Dave Muller has been a friend and an inspiration to our shop since before we even existed. He is a staple in our Outer Sunset neighborhood as an artist and fellow business owner. Dave has a way of making art that is both incredibly free, yet very detailed and precise—which creates a beautiful balance especially while working with watercolor. Dave's studio is just a block away from us and we always love to see what he is working on—we’re so excited to learn from him here!
