New! Sea Shapes with Melanie Lan

SUNDAY, JULY 13, 11:00am - 12:30pm PT
This is an online workshop held via Zoom.
This workshop focuses on nautical linework. Together we will distill marine life into their most basic forms, including seashells, coral, seaweed, and other coastal elements, using simple and minimal brushstrokes to depict these subjects with clarity.
In addition to painting sea life and ocean treasures, this class will utilize a monochromatic palette, inspired by traditional blue & white porcelain, such as Qinghua ceramics and Dutch Delftware. Limiting a piece to a single color and theme may seem restrictive, but it often opens up unexpected creative freedom – encouraging deeper focus, refined expression, and inventive use of contrast, texture, and form.
This class is open to all levels and will result in a cohesive composition of marine studies using a limited blue-toned palette.
Join Zoom 15 minutes early for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and class participants! Class will begin promptly at 5 minutes past the hour, so everyone has plenty of time to create!
