Tuesday, April 11, 5:00pm - 6:30pm PST

The third in a series of 3, this Primary Colors session will focus on the color YELLOW! Exploring painting through one color at a time is a great way to deepen your understanding of your palette and to further your knowledge of pigment. Through layering and playful swatching we will look closely at color relativity, monochromatic compositions and color theory. This session will be packed with information about shade vs. tint, warm vs. cool, gradients and opacity. Join me as we get to the heart of all things yellow and alter our perspective with what we can achieve with one color.

Join zoom 15 minutes early (4:45pm) for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and other class participants! Session instructions will begin promptly at 5:05pm PST so that everyone has plenty of time to join!

SUGGESTED MATERIALS:

  • All your favorite watercolor paints but especially all the yellows you have, plus white and black (Julie will be using Egg Yolk & Fluorescent Yellow and Blue Ridge Yellow Ochre, in addition to Titanium White and Graphite Black)
  • 12 small watercolor paper, preferably 2.5"x3.5". (Strathmore, Arches or CfM Tiny Paper all would be excellent for this class. Sketchbook will work, but small cards would be best)
  • A mix of brushes, but preferably a large flat brush and small round brush
  • Mixing palette
  • Cup of water
  • Pencil
