Saturday, March 30, 11:00am - 12:30pm PST

During my 2022 residency in Iceland I developed a fascination for arctic seabirds and their eggs. The abundance of speckles, the variations in size, and the beautiful markings on the eggs and feathers inspired me to observe nature more closely. This workshop is an introduction to naturalist illustration where we'll be practicing common watercolor techniques such as wet into wet, layering, glazing, and more. We'll be honing our technique and learning how to paint with precision!

Join zoom 15 minutes early (10:45am) for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and other class participants! Session instructions will begin promptly at 11:05am PST so that everyone has plenty of time to join!

SUGGESTED MATERIALS:

  • All your favorite colors! Various shades of neutrals and earth tones are lovely, but bright colors are great too!

  • Water
  • Brushes - at least one larger and one smaller

  • Mixing palette

  • Watercolor paper

  • Extra paper for swatching colors and sketching on the side

  • Pencil + eraser

  • Optional: salt
  • Optional: real eggs and feathers would be wonderful to reference if you've got them, but absolutely not necessary! Reference photos will be provided!
