Meditation on Ray Eames' Playful Shapes with Anjelika Deogirikar Grossman
Thursday, April 27, 5:00 - 6:30pm PST
While I was familiar with Ray Eames as part of the Eames duo, I recently learned about her collage practice of using bold colored geometric shapes to design interior spaces and objects. I was inspired to explore Ray’s practice of collage to introduce geometric shapes and line work into my own practice. In addition to architecture and furniture, Ray created textiles and toys. I am drawn to Ray’s playful approach to art and how we can be curious through our creative practice.
Join zoom 15 minutes early (4:45pm) for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and other class participants! Session instructions will begin promptly at 5:05pm PST so that everyone has plenty of time to join!
Your favorite watercolor paints — around 3-5 colors in a variety of colors, some of Anjelika’s CfM favorites include Indigo, Cerulean, French Vermillion, CfM Poppy, Egg Yolk Yellow, and CfM Moss
Watercolor paper: * 3-4 sheets of mixed media paper or watercolor paper (~90 lbs sheets work great for both watercolor painting and they are easy to cut with scissors) * 1 scrap piece of watercolor paper for swatching
2-3 pieces of scrap copy paper
Brushes (flat or round brushes)
Pencil or pen
Scissors or Xacto knife
Glue (I prefer using a glue stick)
Optional: colors pencils, tape, hole punch
Anjelika found her love for CfM when she was on the hunt for the perfect watercolors to match the landscape of Death Valley and Mojave Desert back in 2019. She loves typography, design and color theory and draws inspiration from textiles, political posters, and patterns found in nature. She is a scientist, researcher, educator and policy wonk.
