Our beloved first limited edition color, now part of our core collection! The delicate misty green pigment is composed of the ground mineral Malachite and is so special and unique for this reason. Due to its composition, the color is semi-transparent, with lightly gritty texture.
Malachite is the oldest known green pigment and was used in Egyptian tomb paintings and in artworks throughout antiquity. Malachite is an opaque, green banded mineral which forms underground in deep fractures where the correct chemicals meet ideal hydrothermal activity. After being mined, malachite is crushed, processed and purified in order to extract just the pigment powder. The pigment is moderately lightfast, very sensitive to acids, and has varied shades of green. We like to think of the oxidized copper color of the Statue of Liberty!
All of our watercolors are handmade in our shop using the highest quality earth and synthetic pigments, plus natural watercolor binding medium made from gum arabic (sap from acacia trees), honey, glycerine, distilled water, and a dash of clove oil for freshness!
