Land and Sea with Dave Muller

Wednesday, April 19, 5:00pm - 6:30pm PST
This class explores some of the many ways earth meets water on our beautiful planet. Using expressive, gestural brushwork and an intuitive approach to color, we will encourage various shorelines to reveal themselves to us. We will exercise our imagination to interpret the marks we make as shorelines and discover ways to define coastal environments from abstraction. We will work on multiple small paintings simultaneously to generate an energetic flow together.
Join zoom 15 minutes (4:45pm) early for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and other class participants! Session instructions will begin promptly at 5:05pm so that everyone has plenty of time to join!
SUGGESTED MATERIALS:
- Your favorite watercolors; as few or many as you are comfortable using at once.
- One or more large brushes (flat 1" is my preferred)
- Any other brushes you like to work with (round 12, 8, 4, 1 etc)
- 4+ sheets of watercolor paper, around 6"x5" (no wider than 10"; Arches cold press 100% cotton 140lb preferred)
- Tape for edges (3m scotch magic tape works great)
ABOUT DAVE
Dave Muller has been a friend and an inspiration to our shop since before we even existed. He is a staple in our Outer Sunset neighborhood as an artist and fellow business owner. Dave has a way of making art that is both incredibly free, yet very detailed and precise—which creates a beautiful balance especially while working with watercolor. Dave shares our studio space with us and we always love to see what he is working on—we’re so excited to learn from him here, as well!
