Sketchbooks are an essential part of any creative practice, and can also be a wonderful tool to tune in and document our life and travels. During this workshop, we will cover tips and tricks for painting while traveling, strategies for building narrative, and layout ideas for dynamic sketchbook pages. We will then take a virtual field trip together, using provided reference photos to practice techniques for documenting travel in our sketchbook with watercolor. My goal is that you will leave class feeling excited and more confident to bring your sketchbook along on all your adventures - in your own city and beyond!

Join zoom 15 minutes early (1:45pm PT) for an informal meet and greet with the 2:05pm PT so that everyone has plenty of time to join!

Mandy Arroyo is a freelance illustrator and artist based in Portland, Oregon known for her colorful and expressive landscape paintings. She kept her first travel sketchbook during a semester spent studying graphic design in Copenhagen in 2015, and since then sketchbooks have become an indispensable part of her creative process. Now, much of Mandy’s creative work is inspired by her travels around Oregon and beyond - she frequently brings a sketchbook along with her on hikes and camping trips, and often uses sketches created on location as a starting point for larger works in her home studio. She enjoys sharing this process with others and hopes to encourage others to play outside a little more.
