You've got it? Let's use it! In this class, anything goes: from children's markers to house paint to watercolors—whatever makes a mark is up for grabs. We'll set up a simple still life (suggestions below), shake off all the rules, and work intuitively with our mixed media to see the surprising ways they produce rich + unconventional combinations. What happens if we drag a pencil through wet acrylic? Or a pink highlighter over crayon? Let's find out!

Join Zoom 15 minutes early (4:45pm PST) for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and other class participants! Session instructions will begin promptly at 5:05pm so that everyone has plenty of time to join!

  • Paper: try lined or colored paper, or maybe even cardboard. Of course "regular" paper works too!
  • A good variety of mark-making tools, the less precious the better: pens, spray paint, dried-up markers, crayons, colored pencils, paints, pastels
  • Water, alcohol, brushes if applicable
  • A simple still life—ideas: flowers, fruits, breakfast leftovers, whatever you enjoy drawing!

Janice Chuang has been making paint with us since she took a watercolor paint making workshop with Alexis. Since then she's been keeping us all laughing at the back table when we could all make paint together. We're all completely in awe of her beautiful illustration style, her handwriting and her overall impeccable style. We so look forward to seeing what classes she cooks up as well!
