Carmine Naccarat / Trade
Of the cochineal bugs, only the female contains any color: a red so alive it conjures blood. The female cochineal bugs gather with their children on the arm of the prickly pear cactus. Inside their bodies, valuable color bulges. The males, in contrast, are small and gray, and do not produce any color. They also have wings, where the females, are immobile, meant to stay with their children on the cactus from which they feed.
Letterpress printed and hand-painted poster / 12" x 18" / edition of 55
*please note that Carmine Naccarat pigment is not lightfast. We recommend keeping out of direct sunlight and if you frame it please use UV glass.
