Spring is on her way and flowers are in bloom! What I love most about pansies is that they look like little faces. Pansies come in a wide variety of colors and are always super vibrant and fun to paint. In this workshop we’ll be using our observation skills to illustrate this beautiful flower in the style of old botanical studies, learning how to hone technique and precision. We’ll learn how to layer, color mix, and come away with a pansy portrait to celebrate the change in seasons!

Note: Watercolor Brushwork Basics or familiarity with watercolor is highly recommended but not required!

Join zoom 15 minutes early (4:45pm) for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and other class participants! Session instructions will begin promptly at 5:05pm PST so that everyone has plenty of time to join!

  • All your favorite colors! Various shades of yellows, purples, pinks, blues, and reds are great for this class. Primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) are good if you’d like to learn how to mix your own hues!

  • Water
  • Brushes - the tiniest brush you have for details! Preferably a size 0 or 000. Have a couple larger brushes (2-8) for larger swatches.

  • Mixing palette or enamel tray (if you don't have a fancy mixing palette, a ceramic dish or plate also works!)

  • Watercolor paper

  • Extra paper for swatching colors and sketching on the side

  • Pencil + eraser

  • Optional: real live pansies would be wonderful to reference if you've got them, but absolutely not necessary! Reference photos will be provided!
