One of the first blue pigments! Composed of the ground mineral Azurite, the color is a soft and stunning greenish blue; lightfast and semi-transparent with a slightly gritty texture when painting.
Azurite is a natural copper carbonate mineral growing alongside the mineral Malachite, which means that oftentimes Azurite pigment contains some of the green Malachite. This can manifest itself while painting in a subtle almost patina- like effect around the dried color. Azurite as a pigment dates back to the Fourth Dynasty in Egypt and it became the most significant blue pigment in European painting between the 15th and 17th centuries!
All of our watercolors are non-toxic and handmade in our shop using the highest quality earth and synthetic pigments and natural watercolor binding medium made from gum arabic (sap from acacia trees), honey, glycerine and distilled water.
