Saturday, May 18, 11:00am - 12:30pm PT

In this workshop we'll be exploring sunsets and sunrises, playing with gentle gradients and rose-tinted clouds. Rather than attempting to paint something entirely photo-realistic or representational, we'll embrace the fluid qualities of watercolor and attempt to capture the colorful energy of "golden hour." We'll be learning how to mix and blend our paints while appreciating the beauty of skies during dusk and dawn.

Join zoom 15 minutes early (10:45am) for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and other class participants! Session instructions will begin promptly at 11:05am PT so that everyone has plenty of time to join!

SUGGESTED MATERIALS:

  • Watercolor paints! The colors in the Dusk Palette are perfect for this, but Indigo, CFM Coral, CFM Smoke, and some form of yellow are the main colors Melanie will be using in this class.
  • Water
  • Brushes - a large wash brush (either flat or mop) if you have one, and various sized round brushes
  • Mixing palette
  • Watercolor paper - Melanie will be using both Arches and Strathmore 100% cotton paper
  • Paper towel
  • Scrap paper for swatching colors
  • Optional: tape for sealing edges
  • Optional: salt
  • Reference photos will be provided
